My wife and I aren’t vegetarian but we don’t eat meat that often. It’s a matter of health and finances, nothing more than that. I buy organic whenever possible and this includes the few times a year I buy a chicken to roast. Now I read in the New York Times that a recent study showed increased levels of arsenic, caffeine, Benadryl and Prozac in chicken. Wow.
Is buying organic the way to go? Who knows, since those birds weren’t tested by researchers. And if one commenter in the link above is to be believed, then the arsenic came from a public water supply. So vegetarian or not, it’s arsenic for all!
I’m worried the tin foil hat people might be on to something…

I have been a veg for 27 years and don’t trust chicken.
Good for you! Unfortunately I have a distrust of standard food sources whether it be produce or meat. I try to buy as much as I can from local sources so I can talk with the farmers about whether they use pesticides, how animals are raised, etc. Of course they can only do so much if they live in an area where there’s chemicals in the groundwater. As you can tell, I’m the one with the tinfoil hat.
I’ve never trusted chickens. I hear people talking about how good they are, but I’m guessing they’ve never had to work with one.
Unfortunately this does not surprise me. Our food sources are so far removed from their natural state, water supplies contaminated etc all due to the “I want it all now/the best of everything” mentality. We are working on growing more of our own food and eating less meat. Ideally I would like to be vegetarian.
